CentOS 7 Post Installation Tasks

Domain name: example.com     Realm name: EXAMPLE.COM

Workgroup: EXAMPLE     Server IP address: xx.xx.xx.xx

Server name: linuxsvr01     Client name: linuxclnt01

Root password: ?Pa55w0rd!

These are the minimum necessary to use puTTY and prepare for the AD config tasks.

Update the system from root

# yum -y update

Check the hostname

# hostname
linuxsvr

To change the hostname permanently

# hostnamectl set-hostname linuxsvr01

Add the machine to the hosts file

# vi /etc/hosts
    127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost4 localhost4.localdomain4
    ::1         localhost localhost.localdomain localhost6 localhost6.localdomain6
    xx.xx.xx.xx linuxsvr01 linuxsvr01.example.com

Allow root login with puTTY (easy to change back at a later date) by uncommenting line 49

# vi /etc/ssh/sshd_config
    48 #LoginGraceTime 2m
    49 PermitRootLogin yes
    50 #StrictModes yes
    51 #MaxAuthTries 6
    52 #MaxSessions 10

Restart OpenSSH

# systemctl restart sshd

These are the minimum tasks that should allow us to continue the installation of the various roles we wish to employ. It is also a good moment to add your static address & hostname to your DNS Server before joining your Active Directory domain.
